Reduced Glutathione (GSH) Assay Kit
Overview
This kit measures reduced glutathione (GSH) content rather than the activity of glutathione-related enzymes. GSH is quantified using its color-forming reaction with DTNB; this is a content assay, not a glutathione reductase or glutathione peroxidase activity assay.
Reduced Glutathione (GSH) is the most important antioxidant thiol substance in cells, playing a crucial role in antioxidation, protein thiol protection, and amino acid transmembrane transport. The ratio of reduced to oxidized glutathione (GSH/GSSG) is a key dynamic indicator of cellular redox status. Therefore, measuring intracellular GSH and GSSG levels, as well as the GSH/GSSG ratio, can effectively reflect the redox state of cells. DTNB reacts with GSH to form a complex, which exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 412nm; the absorbance is proportional to the GSH concentration.
